Where does the bus arrival data come from?
Arrival times come from the MTA's public Bus Time feed, which uses GPS hardware on the buses to report real-time positions. Transitway reads that feed and presents it in a fast, simple interface. We're an independent app and aren't affiliated with or endorsed by the MTA.
Is the app free?
Yes. The NYC Bus Time App is free to download and use on both iOS and Android. It's supported by ads.
Why is an arrival time sometimes off?
Arrival estimates depend on the real-time GPS data the MTA publishes for each bus. Traffic, signal gaps, or a bus that hasn't reported its position recently can cause an estimate to shift. When the feed updates, the app refreshes to the latest available time.
The app is stuck loading or showing an error. What can I do?
First, check your internet connection and pull to refresh. If it persists, make sure you're on the latest version from the App Store or Google Play, then restart the app. If you still see the problem, email us at transitway.com@gmail.com with your device model and OS version and we'll investigate.
Which routes and boroughs are covered?
All five boroughs — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island — including Local, Limited, Select Bus Service (SBS), and Express routes, wherever the MTA publishes Bus Time data.
How do I save my regular routes?
Tap the favorite icon on any route or stop to pin it. Your favorites appear together for one-tap access the next time you open the app.
